Most Asked Questions

What is Bemo?
Bemo offers therapist-supported programs proven to help you overcome anxiety and depression. Our programs are based on researched therapy practices for anxiety and depression.

Bemo is the 1st step towards a better you. Our mission is to find the best therapist for you and to help you get actionable takeaways on how your mind works and to aid you in achieving your life goals. We continuously research everything to help our therapists and you.

Bemo will guide you through daily online activities organised to help you learn about CBT, RBT also anxiety, develop skills to restructure your anxious thoughts and use these skills to overcome your anxiety or depression in real-life settings.

We are not trying to replace in-clinic therapy. Many people prefer that, which is fine. We created Bemo so more people could benefit from therapy and overcome their day-to-day challenges in a stigma-free environment.

With Bemo, you can send a therapist text messages, audio messages, as well as picture and video messages in a private, text-based chat room. Bemo stands out since it not only connects you to a therapist but also recommends easy to do 5-min activities to help you learn more about therapy and your beautiful brain.

Bemo started in 2017 with selection in Start-Up Chile Sfactory. We also were selected for 10K Startups, NUMA & Start-Up Chile SEED Gen 17. We welcome you on your journey with Bemo :)

Is Bemo anonymous?

Yes. One of the most significant obstacles that prevent people from going to a therapist is the stigma that people feel with Therapy. Bemo understands how you feel and is completely anonymous and private. We will never post anything on your behalf or share details of your consultation.

Bemo never discloses your identity to your therapist or anyone else. Your first name is the only detail your therapist will see. Your display picture is also not shown to your therapist. It’s entirely up to you whether or not you reveal your full name or any other detail to anyone at any time.

How do I sign up for therapy?

Simply download our mobile app (Android). Login is only used for authentication to make it easier to sign in. After that, you’ll be taken to your private Connect where you will begin.

GAD -7 is just a first step to give your matching therapist an idea of your thoughts in the past 2 weeks. It does not mean that you have a disorder.

You will first be approached by one of our therapists who will chat with you and give you a good idea of what Bemo can do for you. Henceforth, they will begin your online consultation.

What happens during the free trial?

During your initial consultation, your therapist will chat with you long enough to understand the reasons why you came here, give you a good idea of what Bemo can do for you and help you navigate Bemo. Your consultation is at the same level of care as provided in in-clinic consultation and you can begin discussing your thoughts as you would in face to face therapy.

Who is my therapist?

Your therapist is matched for your consultation.  Your therapist provides motivation and support and has been trained in cognitive behavioural techniques, so they can give feedback and answer questions.

Bemo screens best therapists to list them on the Bemo mobile application. Information about your therapist can be found by tapping on their picture in your Connect tab on our mobile app. You may go through Reviews and About sections on your therapist's profile to know more about them.

Will I choose my therapist myself?

A crucial part of providing you with effective therapy is our matching algorithm. We are careful to find the best match since the experience is different than merely picking someone out of a directory. We know the client-therapist relationship is extremely important, so this matching algorithm is a service we are proud to provide at Bemo.

Where can I ask questions regarding joining Bemo as a therapist?

Please click on this link and submit your application. You will have the opportunity to ask a member of our clinical team any questions you have when they respond to your application. You can also reach out to us at support@bemo.life.

How do I access Bemo activities?

You can access Bemo activities from your Bemo android application. Many of our users found mobile app more useful to maintain privacy in their conversations and activities. Bemo online therapy is app only.

What type of activities will I complete on Bemo app?

In the “Therapy” portion of the Bemo mobile application, each activity is designed to help you learn the core CBT skills which are proven to help you overcome your anxiety. These skills include identifying your anxious or depressive thoughts, challenging these thoughts with evidence, and developing alternative, more helpful ideas.

Space travel with Bemo missions will help you focus your mind on finding evidence for your thoughts and help you learn what works for you. Activities may ask you to write about your own experiences, practising these CBT skills in the process. Some activities may give you an option to share your creativity on the Bemo forum. Concepts are explained in easy audio format or a quick read. As you practice these challenges over time, your CBT skills develop, and help you to reduce your anxiety or depression. You can ask about any of the activities to your Therapist at any time. We love your opinion on our therapy techniques, and you can send us feedback on support@bemo.life.

How long does an activity take?

A typical activity takes about 10 minutes.

How frequently should I complete online therapy activities?

We recommend completing online activities every 1-2 days to see the best outcomes, though you are free to move at your own pace.

Can I purchase Bemo for a loved one?

Yes, of course — if you would like to purchase Bemo for someone you care about, we’ve made the process easy for you. Just email us with your request at support@bemo.life. We may even give you a discount for your lovely gesture.

Therapy & Therapist Questions

How do I interact with my coach?

When you subscribe or try the Bemo app under trial, you immediately start online consultation with your therapist.

Within your first week with Bemo, there is an optional call with your therapist so you can get to know one another and talk about your goals. You can reach out to them as much as you’d like by text or media messages. You can also schedule time to check in over the phone throughout your program.

Can I use the program while taking anti-anxiety or antidepressant medications?

Yes. Studies have shown that CBT can still be useful for anxiety and depression when taking these medications. Before beginning the program, we recommend that you have been on a stable dosage of your medication for a month.

Once I sign up for therapy, will I have the same therapist?

Absolutely! Your therapist will personally work with you throughout all the days and weeks you are at Bemo with your subscription term.

What will happen if I sign out or cancel my subscription?

If you sign out, you can just sign back in, and if your previous therapist is still working with Bemo, we will make sure that you get the same therapist for the sake of continuity. If you wish to change your previous therapist, just email us at support@bemo.life. We will recommend a new therapist, no questions asked.

What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?

CBT is a set of exercises that reduce anxiety and depression, as proven by decades of clinical research. It is the leading treatment for social anxiety and depression, and it is also a leading treatment for many other mental health issues.

How effective is CBT for anxiety and depression?

CBT is one of the most effective treatments for anxiety. It is recommended by leading mental health organisations including the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the U.K. National Health Service (NHS).

CBT has been shown to be useful for the treatment of acute depression and for reducing the likelihood of relapse; “CBT does appear to have an enduring effect that protects against subsequent relapse and recurrence following the end of active treatment, something that cannot be said for medications.”

Is online therapy really effective?

Absolutely. Over the last decade, numerous research studies have shown the effective potential of online therapeutic conversation. Bemo not only uses the best online therapy techniques but also personalises them for you to find the best ones, which work for you. Things that you like doing soon become a part of your life.
